I grew up spending winters skiing in southeast Michigan and summers sailing on Grand Traverse Bay. I fell in love with nature and travel at a young age. Whether I was snowboarding in Colorado, scuba diving in Australia or hiking the Great Wall of China, I always had a camera around my neck. For as long as I can remember I've delighted in capturing the world around me with my lens.
I met my husband, Kurt, a year after I graduated from Albion College where I had earned my BFA in Visual Art with a concentration in Photography. A couple of years later we were planning our wedding. We wanted to be married outdoors and instead of finding a venue we decided to create our own. We converted an overgrown field of weeds into a grass-covered, sunflower-lined oasis and completed the scene with an elegant reception tent and a mile high bonfire. It was truly a labor of love and it was during this process that I fell in love with weddings, particularly the details.
After joining KT&CO, it didn't take long to realize I had found my "Dream Job." I love weddings. I love traditions and the uniqueness each couple brings to their day. I love being outside and in new locations, but most of all, I love people. Spending time with each couple and capturing such an important day for them makes me so happy.
A few years into photographing weddings, it became more and more obvious to me that while I loved what I did, my husband was less than thrilled with his job. I wanted nothing more than for him to love what he does as much as I do. So, we got serious and figured out how to make that happen. To make a long story short, we are now the proud owners of a women's only gym called HALE Strength and Shape. Fun fact: Some pretty fantastic companies have started out of a garage (Google it). KT&CO's first studio was above a garage and HALE started as a group of girlfriends working out in our backyard garage! My husband runs all of our Strength classes while I enjoy dancing (another love of mine) and teaching our Cardio hip-hop and kids classes.
